Luscious mini mahogany cake

Luscious mini mahogany cake

Luscious has been cookin’ like a house afire, or maybe more like a housewife afire, but anyway, we’ve been baking a lot of bundt cake. Now this will tell you a little too much about the way Anne-Charlotte grew up, but as a young thing she thought a bundt cake was something that started with Duncan Hines cake mix, then magically (or tragically, depending on your perspective) got Jello pudding all through the middle of it, and finally, was frosted with Cool Whip.  For a deluxe treat: Lifesavers sprinkled over the top. We apologize for that troubling visual, but the point is… well we don’t exactly know what the point of telling you that was, but Anne-Charlotte got her bundt cake thinking straightened out many years ago, and classy Jennifer probably knew better all along.

Bundt cakes can in fact be lovely, made-from scratch delicacies, which perfectly describes the Luscious mini-bundt cakes that have been showing up at some local soirees lately. Our espresso-infused dark chocolate Mahogany cakes are every bit as fabulous as Diana Ross’ outfits in the movie of the same name, and probably better, because our cakes have a meltingly delicious chocolate glaze, whereas Diana’s character in the movie had all those problems with Anthony Perkins. Also debuting recently: our mini Dr. Pepper cakes. You’re probably thinking “I can tell which one of those Luscious gals came up with this trailer park delight”,  but slow down there— our divine Dr. Pepper mini-bundts are rich and slightly spicy glazed butter cakes that have reportedly caused at least one party-goer to throw a bonafide tantrum when seconds were unavailable. Luscious likes that a lot, because we’ve been know to throw a dessert-related tantrum or two ourselves. Available in Original and Chocolate (the cakes, we mean. Well, maybe the tantrums, too.)

This Thursday at 4pm Luscious Pastry will again be joining the Violet Crown Supper Club over on Redlands. This is a stunningly bad segue, because we won’t have our bundt cakes there (although we’ll happy fill orders for those beauties anytime). But this week Luscious had been moved to bake some classic Tres Leches Cake. Creamy, sweet, and served chilled, slices of Tres Leches make a lovely summer dessert. Also, we’re making scrumptious green-chile cheddar corn muffins. Moist with just a little green chili heat, they’re an excellent sidekick for Joel’s yummy Violet Crown comestibles. See you there!

And if we haven’t rambled on enough, just a reminder that Luscious is taking orders for Father’s Day. We’re offering pecan pie bars by the dozen or mini-mahogany cakes  in lovely gift boxes with cards. Or let us know if you have another Luscious treat in mind for your papa bear, and we’ll fix you up.

Luscious Pastry has a LOGO.

Luscious is a little vexed. On the one hand, we have this fine new logo. On the other hand, in order to have our logo in our header of our blog, the links on the page are now blue, which does not match. “Vexed” may not be the word for the pain this is causing Anne-Charlotte, especially given that WordPress would only need to allow users to customize ONE FREAKING LINE OF CODE to make the links a more pleasing hue. Luscious considered penning an email to WordPress demanding our money back, then recalled that the blog is free. Oh.

In happier news, Luscious Pastry will be at the Brentwood Talent Show this evening. No, not performing (maybe next year) but in attendance at the food table in the form of Lemon-Blueberry Cheesecake Squares and Pecan Pie Bars.

Now these Lemon-Blueberry thingies are lemony, creamy, and classy. The sort of dainty item you might encounter at a debutante’s coming-out tea at Green Pastures, and you’d be thinking “Jesus, I’d rather be in jail right now than at this lame tea party, except they don’t serve these fabulous Lemon-Blueberry Cheesecake Squares in jail!” and then you’d be able to get through the rest of the tea party without slapping one of the debs.

The Pecan Pie Bars, on the other, would do the slapping for you. These sumptuous bad girls are so obscenely, gooily delicious that the Utah state legislature is currently trying to pass a bill which would outlaw them. But that doesn’t effect us here in beautiful Austin (know in Utah as Sinning-Hippieville) so we will see you tonight at the talent show!

LUSCIOUS debuts blackberry crumble squares

ooh la la, blackberry-licious!

ooh la la, blackberry-licious!

Today is the day, amigos. Luscious Pastry proprietesses Jennifer and Anne-Charlotte will be introducing our fine treats for sale to the public this afternoon at the Violet Crown Supper Club, aka Joel and Joanna’s house.

Today’s delicious offering is …. drumroll…. Blackberry Crumble Squares. We’re trying to think of a cooler sounding name for these, but everything we come up with is a little too long, like Once You Go Black(berry) You Never Go Back Bars, or  Hey Dell Employee, Put Down Your Stupid Blackberry And Come Eat Real Blackberries With A Crumbly Topping.

(No offense to Dell Employees and special apologies to Dave Erwin. Also, ask Anne-Charlotte to tell you the name of the boat her husband purchased from three Dell guys who looked like they were from the cast of Office Space.)

Actually neither of those names really describe these gems: a classic buttery shortbread crust under a luscious (no coincidence) filling of blackberry majesty topped with sweet streusel crumbles. Each one is basically an individual  dee-luxe blackberry pie, which is square-shaped and miraculouly holding itself together, and the perfect complement for Joel Fried’s fine VCSC fare.

These delights are at the Luscisous Pastry studio, waiting for the magical hour when they will be transported to the Violet Crown Supper Club on Redlands. In order to avoid eating all or most of them herself,  Anne-Charlotte will probably have to lock herself out  today, then break a window around 4 o’clock so she can get back in and take them over to Joanna’s house.

Y’all, they are so good. See you this afternoon!
